Toronto's Beyond the Pale is one of the leading ensembles in Canada's Klezmer, folk, and world music scenes. Their explosive acoustic sound is inspired by a wide range of cross-cultural influences, from Klezmer, Balkan, and Romanian music, to bluegrass, jazz, reggae and funk. The group is known for their incredible musicianship, intricate arrangements, and unique repertoire featuring both original compositions and traditional material. Beyond the Pale's exuberant and dynamic live performances have delighted audiences at major music festivals, theatres, and clubs across North America. The group has released two award winning CDs : "Routes" and "Consensus". Beyond the Pale was founded in 1998 by mandolinist Eric Stein, a multi-instrumentalist (mandolin, bass, cimbalom, guitar) and a leading figure in Toronto's Jewish music scene.
